5 Things to Know Today, March 10, In Montgomery County

1. Council President Briefing: Council President Kate Stewart will host a media briefing at 2:30 p.m. to discuss Council matters, including the recent United in Service and Support webinar, which focused on mental health resources for residents. 2. Council Committee Meetings: Four council committees will meet today:

  • The Economic Development committee meets at (9:30 a.m. in the 2nd Floor Davidson Memorial Hearing room with this agenda.
  • The Public Safety and Governmental Operations committees hold a joint meeting at 9:30 a.m. in the 7th Floor Hearing room with this agenda.
  • The Public Safety committee meets at 1:45 p.m. to review the FY26 Capital Budget in the 2nd Floor Davidson Memorial Hearing room with this agenda.
  • The Planning, Housing, & Parks committee meets at 1:45 p.m. in the 7th Floor Hearing room with this agenda.

3. Police Consent Search Public Forum: The County’s Advisory Commission on Policing will hold a virtual public forum at 7 p.m. today. The meeting will include an overview of the Montgomery County Police Department’s consent search policy. Residents will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback during the event.

4. Changes to Open Parkways Schedule: Montgomery Parks closes sections of Beach Drive and Sligo Creek Parkway, to vehicles to create recreational space for walkers and bikers. The schedule changed as of Friday, March 7 as follows:

Closed to vehicles Fridays at 9 a.m. through Sundays at 6 p.m.

  • Beach Drive between Knowles Avenue and Cedar Lane
  • Sligo Creek Parkway between Forest Glen Road and University Boulevard West

Closed to vehicles Saturdays at 7 a.m. through Sundays at 6 p.m.

  • Sligo Creek Parkway between Old Carroll Avenue and Piney Branch Road

5. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet at 7:30 p.m. for a joint work session. Staff will present the semiannual population and pipeline report. Find the agenda here and the agenda packet here. The Rockville Mayor and Council do not meet today. On Tuesday, they will meet with the tenants of the Parkside Apartments.
